Join us for a family-friendly evening of stargazing, exploration, and cultural enrichment under the starry Melbourne sky. This unique event, hosted by the Astronomical Society of Victoria, the International Association of Lighting Designers,  Dark Sky Victoria, and the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance. 

 

The night brings together astronomy enthusiasts, environmentalists, and cultural experts for an evening filled with wonder and learning.

Sidewalk Astronomy & Telescopes: 

Gaze at the marvels of the night sky through high-powered telescopes. Our knowledgeable astronomers from the Astronomical Society of Victoria will guide you through celestial wonders, from distant galaxies to the craters of the Moon. Bring your curiosity and questions as we unlock the mysteries of the cosmos.


Enlightening Insights and Talks:

Join Light Pollution Researchers, Astronomer Fred Watson, and Cultural Leaders as they unveil the Secrets of Dark Skies and as they shed light on its impact on our world.

 

Ecosystem & Nature Walk:  

As the day transitions to night, join the Botanical Garden team for a captivating dusk nature walk. Explore the vibrant ecosystem, discover nocturnal creatures, and embrace the serenity of the natural world under the darkening skies.
 

Optimal Lighting Walk: 

Illuminate your understanding of responsible lighting practices with the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) lead. Discover how lighting impacts our environment and learn about the importance of minimizing light pollution and maximising the best practices for artificial light at night for a healthier planet.
